Flies

Common home and garden flies in Hawkes Bay.

  • Houseflies: A very common pest, attracted to food, waste, and moisture.
  • Blowflies: Often shiny, blue, or green in colour, they are attracted to decaying organic matter.
  • Cluster Flies: Also known as attic flies, they are a nuisance in autumn when they seek out dark, dry places in homes to overwinter.

To protect against flies Walls, Ceilings and sills are spay treated to provide a layer of protection that is effective for up to 12 months.

Flies ingest the spray residue when they clean themselves. Given their size and sensitivity to the active ingredient it takes little exposure for them to them to have a leathal dose.

Spiders

There are six speicies of spiders commonly found in Hawkes Bay homes. Include;

  • Grey house spider (Badumna longinqua): An Australian import, this is possibly the most common spider in New Zealand. It builds a distinctive web with a circular retreat and a 'wool' of threads radiating from it.
  • Black house spider (Badumna insignis): Similar to the grey house spider, it's a common, dark-coloured spider found around homes, building dense webs around windows and doors.
  • White-tailed spider (Lampona genus): These are common throughout the North Island and are often found in houses for shelter and food. They are dark grey with a lighter, white spot at the tip of their abdomen.
  • Daddy longlegs (Pholcus phalangioides): Recognizable by their long, thin legs, they build messy, irregular webs in sheltered spots and are harmless to humans.
  • False Widow (Steatoda capensis): Also called the black cobweb spider, it is common in New Zealand homes.
  • Orbweavers: A large family of spiders that build the classic, circular webs.

The most effective treatement for spiders is a combination of

Outdoor blanket spray treatment : including crack, crevases, and surfaces of buildings and structures such as house, sheds, outdoor furnature, bbq, letter box, wood box, pump houses, trampoline frame & spings.

Targeted indoor spraying : Including sills, verticies, surfaces, ceillings, curtains

Theses to tactics combine to form a protected boundary to spiders keeping them away from your space.

Cockroaches

Gisborne cockroach

  • Appearance: A large, dark brown cockroach with a distinctive cream-colored stripe on either side of its thorax.
  • Behavior: Usually lives outdoors under bark or wood chips. It comes inside seeking warmth during cooler weather or when it's too wet.

American cockroach

  • Appearance: One of the largest pest cockroaches, sometimes up to 4cm long. It has a reddish-brown color and a yellowish band around its thorax.
  • Behavior: Prefers dry conditions, often found in wall cavities and floors, but also in drains and sewers.
  • Health risk: Can transmit diseases like dysentery and salmonella.

German cockroach

  • Appearance: A smaller species that is a common indoor pest.
  • Behavior: Thrives in warm, dark places, often found in kitchens, behind appliances, and in ducting.
  • Health risk: Can carry harmful bacteria and may damage appliances.

The treatement for cockroaches is similar to that of spiders but targeted for their behavour patterns. Cockroaches are different to spiders in the respect that they are aggregate insects, meaning they clump together for social and survival reasons.

In addition baiting is used in combination with spray treatments maximise effectiveness.

Dust

Wasps

German wasps, Common Wasps, and Paper wasps are the most commonly found wasps in Hawkes Bay homes.

Hawkes Bay ChimneySolutions deployees a very effective dust treatment straight to the nest of the identified wasp. This dust is very effective and fast acting, exterminating a nest within an hour after exposerue.

Other insets

Dusting can be used in many ways such as the removal of wasps. We also use it to aid other treatments such as german cockroaches. Since it does not follow a linear path like spray does, it is very effective at covering large areas such as roof cavaties, under decks and below floor spaces following a turbulent path. this is effective at flushing out german cockroaches and into the area of spray protection.

Baiting

Rodents

Rodents such as rats and mice are very commonly found pests in the colder months.

Ship Rat (Black Rat, Roof Rat)

Tail Length: Tail is usually longer than the head and body combined

Size: Smaller and more slender body; ears cover eyes when pressed forward.

Norway Rat (Brown Rat, Sewer Rat).

Habitat: Good swimmers and diggers; typically found in burrows, near waterways, foundations, and urban areas at ground level.

Hawkes Bay Chimney Solutions employes baiting as oppossed to traping because it provides a consistant effective result and is family friendly with everything ket out of reach of children and pets. Secondarly once ingested rodents will go outside looking for water meaning there is signifactnly reduced risk of a sentch being build up as a result of the pest dying inide somehwere and there is no risk of secondary poisioning.

Ants

In addition to spray we mix or own bait design to have a delayed effect so it can be taken back to the next and processed to the queen before taking effect so the entire nest can be wiped out and reduce the possibility of the population recovering.

German Cockroaches

German cockroaches require the most involved process to eliminate. without an exceedingly thorough treatment reinfestation occurs at a high rate. So in order to cover all bases we use in addition to sry and dust a gel bait specifically designed for german cockroaches.
